German logistics at the Fencing World Championship 2025: MARTIN Spedition delivers equipment & precision to Tbilisi

Tbilisi, 23 July 2025
Foil, épée, sabre – what looks to spectators like feather-light movements on the piste begins behind the scenes with tonnes of equipment, precise timing, and carefully planned routes. At this year's Fencing World Championship in Tbilisi, Georgia, the organiser also relies on German support: Martin Internationale Spedition GmbH from Berlin delivered sensitive technology, trade-fair accessories, and temporary equipment to the host country in the run-up to the championship – safely, on time, and duty-free.

Several shipments were moved from Germany to Georgia under a temporary import procedure – using the ATA Carnet, which secures international fairs and sports events logistically. Among them: timing systems, LED displays, modular sports flooring, and equipment for media and organisers. For a few days, the Olympic Palace in Tbilisi became a perfectly equipped world stage for fencing – supported by German logistics expertise.

A look behind the scenes
While nations face each other in fencing duels in the hall, complex processes are running in the background. MARTIN Spedition coordinated customs declarations, handover points, and return-shipment plans to the hour. Often, freight had to be moved overnight and made ready for use immediately – any delay would have derailed the set-up plan of entire hall segments. That it still runs “smoothly on the outside” is the result of an invisible interplay of planning, routine, and local knowledge.

“Such transports are like a fencing match – every movement counts, every second is timed,” staff say internally.

Made in Germany – not just on the label
The technical quality of the delivered systems also impressed the organisers. From the signal transmission of the scoreboards to the power supply on the mobile combat podiums, much of it came from Germany. This underlines not only the role of German manufacturers in event technology – but also the trust placed in medium-sized logistics partners that operate beyond the standard routes.

Outlook after the closing parade
When the final medals are handed out on 30 July, the actual return leg begins for the logistics team. Everything that came must go back – quickly, completely, and documented. For MARTIN Spedition, this is not just routine but part of a self-image: professionally supporting international events – even where others do not travel.

That Georgia performs convincingly as host is, not least, a logistical achievement too. And for the Berlin-based freight forwarder, it is further proof that top performance does not only take place on the piste.
