Transports to Ukraine are predominantly carried out by international forwarders specialised in Eastern Europe and third-country traffic. The transit time depends on place of dispatch and destination, border situation and mode of transport. In practice, most transports fall within the following time frames:
- Full truck load (FTL): 2–5 working days
- Part load (LTL): 4–7 working days
- General cargo: depending on trans-shipment points, usually 5–10 working days
Border crossings can vary the transit time through waiting times, security checks or customs processes. The route also plays a role, as different border points have different traffic situations. A realistic transit-time statement therefore always covers a time corridor rather than exact fixed dates.
For transports to Ukraine, several mandatory documents are required. These include:
- commercial invoice with full goods description
- packing list
- customs tariff numbers (HS codes)
- export declaration via the electronic customs system
- proofs of origin (depending on the goods)
- CMR consignment note
- if applicable, technical certificates or declarations of conformity
As Ukraine is not an EU member, complete and precise export paperwork is decisive. Transit documents such as T1 can become necessary when the transport runs through other non-EU countries. Faulty information often leads to delays at the border or additional customs checks.
